7G (Ferrograph) 1974

Specifications

The Ferrograph Series 7 came in 4 main different formats, the wooden case system with a cloth covered exterior and lid, the domestic HI-FI version with bare wooden case, the Military metal case and this machine, unlike the rest of the recorders which share almost identical electronics, the 7G's controls are much different to the rest. The 7G does not have the EQ control as found on the other machines, instead, it has removable cards in the rear of the machine which hold the EQ settings for pacific jobs, either audio or instrumentation requirements. The recorder has a pair of miniature Sifam meters which are opposite scale deflection, this has not been seen on a Ferrograph which uses transistors though was popular on almost all their valve machines. The recorder also has a unique feature where the left and right channels have their independent remote control settings, also, this machine has a variable capstan control which is something not seen until the later Ferrograph Studio 8.
